[Milla, Jude and co. approach the throne and talk to Jiao for a bit, finally finding out he's one of the Chimeriad. Surprise! Then Gaius strides in like a boss, followed by Wingul, who stands to his left as he sits, cross-legged.]

WINGUL: It is a great honor to meet you, former Chief of Staff Ilbert.

ROWEN: Ah, and you are the Ebon Wing of Auj Oule...Wingul the Nova.

MILLA: You must be the King of Auj Oule.

GAIUS: My name is Gaius, King of Auj Oule. Welcome, Maxwell.

WINGUL: you have requested an audience with the king, have you not? Now, please state your business.

JUDE: Boosters made in your country have already fallen into Rashugal hands. If a war were to break out between your nations, then the results would be catastrophic for everyone.

GAIUS: Oh, and you came all the way here just to tell me that in person?

JUDE: Uh...yes, Your Highness.

LEIA: We're planning to destroy one of Rashugal's weapons. A really big one at that. Once that thing's gone, we know that Rashugal's king wouldn't dare declare war on you. In fact, we hoped that you might, you know, help us?

WINGUL: Is there anything else?

ROWEN: Yes, there is one other matter we'd like to discuss. It is in regards to the booster laboratory within the Royal Hunting Grounds.

MILLA: Is it true you once abducted orphans for this facility, and then you performed experiments on these children?

GAIUS: well, I didn't see that one coming. What does any of this have to do with you, spirit?

MILLA: I am Maxwell. It is my duty to protect both humans and spirits alike.

GAIUS: Really? Spirits, protecting humans? Now that is quite an interesting tale.

MILLA: You forsook your duty as king, and then you toyed with the lives of your own people, didn't you?

WINGUL: the laboratory is entirely my responsibility. It was a haven for those children. They would have died without it. You imagine it as a mad scientist's lab, but I assure you, the experiments were entirely humane.

MILLA: You expect us to take your word for this?

ELIZE: But I...I was...

WINGUL: This girl. She was that test subject?

JIAO: Yes, she was.

JUDE: Even in Hamil, Elize was forced to live in a tiny room. Don't you consider that--

GAIUS: Cruel?

JUDE: Well, uh, yes.

GAIUS: Tell me something, boy. Have you ever considered what it takes to achieve happiness?

JUDE: to achieve happiness?

GAIUS: Yes, to try and live a satisfying life. How do you think one can achieve that? Do you even know?

JUDE: W-well...

MILLA: It takes freedom to make your own decisions and to form your own beliefs.

JUDE: Exactly. It takes freedom.

GAIUS: Hah. Well, I disagree. [He stands.] When a man loses his way in life, the ground beneath him starts to slowly crumble, until there is nothing left. A man who cannot find his way becomes trapped. The more he struggles, the deeper he sinks into uncertainty. True happiness comes from following a noble path across an entire lifetime without getting lost. My country does not produce failures. It is the king's duty to show his people the proper path. I must keep them from becoming completely trapped.

Now, let me tell you in no uncertain terms why I've called you here. Maxwell, I know you stole the key from the laboratory in Rashugal. Now, hand it over immediately.

MILLA: No, I won't. The key was not meant for human hands. When faces with a power that could destroy the entire world, no human can control him or herself.

GAIUS: It seems as though you haven't heard a thing that I just said, spirit.

MILLA: Heh, something about royal guidance and noble paths? I've heard it before. You humans never change. I've watched you for 2,000 years.

WINGUL: All right, then why don't you just tell us where the key is.

[Alvin walks forward. Everyone looks shocked.]

LEIA: What?

JUDE: Alvin...what...what're you doing?

ELIZE: But you can't!

MILLA: Alvin.

ALVIN: Sorry guys. I'm just doin' my job.

WINGUL: Alvin. Who did Maxwell entrust the key to?

ALVIN: The handmaid Ivar. He's probably sulking back in Nia Khera as we speak.

[Jude glances at Milla. The door opens, and Presa rushes in. She spots Alvin.]

PRESA: Al, what're you doing here!?

ALVIN: Hey, Presa. Long time no see.

WINGUL: Presa, what is it.

[she glances at Milla's group, uncertain.]

GAIUS: Ignore them. Give your report.

PRESA: the Rashugal army has invaded Hamil.

ROWEN: What did you say!?

PRESA: I'm afraid the casualties are high. Those not killed were captured. They were sent to Rashugal. We also found evidence that the power of a Great Spirit was used upon the village.

GAIUS: A Great Spirit? But no one has successfully summoned the Four Great Spirits for two decades.

MILLA: Impossible. I would have known if the Four Great Spirits had been released. Could it be the Lance of Kresnik...? Is it possible that Nachtigal has made a new key?

GAIUS: if that's the case, then we're declaring war. Send word to all the clans. I am going to crush anyone who dares to harm my people!

[he turns to leave.]

WINGUL: Well then, we will no longer have any need for the likes of you. But if His Highness (sic) were to have the Spirit Maxwell as his captive, even the unruly clans would be forced to bend their knees.

[Milla and co. make a break for it. Alvin waves at them as they go.]

WINGUL: Capture Maxwell! Recover the test subject!



NOTES: YOUR MAJESTY not Your Highness the translators fucked that up. Anyway. Wingul gives the order to capture Milla after Gaius has left, it was his own idea. He also is allowed to speak whenever he likes, apparently. They are totally banging.

(Fezebel Marsh)

[the party approaches Gaius, who has his back to them, observing the Lance of Kresnik up on a hill. It seems as if he must have taken out the regiment protecting it.]

JUDE: Gaius!

GAIUS: So, you defeated the Chimeriad.

ROWEN: I cannot say I'm surprised you came to the battlefield yourself.

GAIUS: of course. It is my path.

[Milla nods to Jude, then approaches Gaius. Jude tries to follow her, but Rowen holds him back.]

MILLA: Answer me. Why do you want the Lance of Kresnik?

GAIUS: With it, I will protect the people of this world. I shall gather all such sources of power and place them under my safe control.

MILLA: There is a fine line between protection and domination. The Lance will become the bane of the very people you seek to protect. This path of yours will lead to ruin.

GAIUS: Preposterous. I will never falter as long as I have this will to guide the weak.

MILLA: Yet you have overlooked one crucial fact.

GAIUS: And that is?

MILLA: Despite your power and that will of yours, someday you will die. Then what? Can you guarantee that whomever inherits the Lance will share your vision and your will?

[Gaius says nothing, but exhales in irritation.]

MILLA: Eventually, those who follow will succumb to the Lance's unfathomable power. They will destroy your legacy, and themselves. It's just human nature. Your history proves this.

GAIUS: Then I will chart a new path for history.

MILLA: In the end, you, too, show yourself to be human.

GAIUS: Hmph, of course. And it's because I'm human that I yearn for a united Rieze Maxia. But I suppose you see it as only greed and ambition.

MILLA: Gaius, for the last time, I will not give you the Lance. Will you stand down?

[He readies his sword.]

GAIUS: Never!

JUDE: I thought you might understand. But regardless, the Lance of Kresnik must be destroyed!

ROWEN: Yes, for the sake of future generations.

LEIA: We need to end this here and now!

ELIZE: Yes, we can't stop now!

TEEPO: We'll stand by Milla!

ALVIN: I think you know what happens next.

MILLA: We will prevail!

GAIUS: Show me your resolve!

[The battle begins.]

MILLA: Gaius, in the name of the Great Spirits, I shall defeat you!

GAIUS: You underestimate me!

ROWEN: And yet, do you think you can handle us alone?

ALVIN: I think you're underestimating us!

GAIUS: you're all getting ahead of yourselves. Witness what humans are truly capable of!

JUDE: you don't scare us!

GAIUS: Awaken! The inferno cries out! Into oblivion! Absolute Domination!

MILLA: You're quite formidable.

GAIUS: And you are no less than I expected. Nevertheless--the Lance of Kresnik shall be mine!

[he starts charging his lasers an attack. The party is too exhausted to move.]

LEIA: Uh oh, I don't like the look of that.

ALVIN: Damn it. Where is he?

GAIUS: Farewell.

[two blades arc down from the sky, and he releases the energy to deflect them.]

GAIUS: Who dares!?

[Ivar jumps down in front of the Lance off his wyvern and poses.]

IVAR: Ivar to the rescue!

MILLA: Ivar? Why are you here?

IVAR: Lady Milla, once your powers are restored, you'll be able to give that pretender a serious smiting!

[He activates the Key.]

GAIUS: What are you doing!?

[Milla puts a hand to her head, shaking it.]

IVAR: Haha! Pay attention, Jude! I'll show you what separates the handmaids from the boys!

[he runs and slams the Key into place. The Lance activates.]

IVAR: See what I did there, phony? It's called saving the day. Look it up! Now the power of the Four Great Spirits shall be revived!

[the Lance begins absorbing mana from everyone nearby on the battlefield. It focuses the energy into a charged beam that strikes off into the sky, impacting against something that shatters.]

JUDE: Wha...what happened?

MILLA: It can't be. It broke right through it all. So...I was mistaken all along! That means that the Lance was never a weapon at all!

JUDE: Milla?

[Explosions ring out nearby. Energy projectiles rain from the now-gaping hole in the sky, followed by large airships.]

Alvin: Wha...what the hell is going on?

[a strange figure is seen in the gap. A giant ball of light grows quickly, enveloping several of the ships and crushing them. It shrinks to a point and falls like a meteorite.]

LEIA: Wh-what are those?

TEEPO: Someone please cover my eyes! I'm scared!

GAIUS: A fleet of ships that sail the sky?

GILLAND: I've finally done it. Hehehe...Hahahaha!

ALVIN: Gilland! What is going on?

MILLA: You're telling me that's Gilland!?

ALVIN: Damn it, you son of a--

[he lifts his gun to fire, but is assaulted by a barrage of ice spears.]

GAIUS: Were you the one who attacked Hamil?

GILLAND: Yes. That was the handiwork of my spirit, Celsius.

[he holds up a strange device and summons her.]

MILLA: The Spirit Celsius? I've never even heard the name before.

GAIUS: You dared lay hands on my people. For that, you will pay.

[more lasers, and now soldiers flying down from the ships with jetpacks.]

LEIA: I don't understand. Who are these people?

SOLDIER: Are you Gilland of Exodus?

GILLAND: Yes, I am. That's the woman, right over there.

MILLA: What? Exodus? Were you the one who told Nachtigal about spyrix?!

[Gilland does another evil laugh.]

GILLAND: Don't kill that woman. It would ruin everything.

SOLDIER: Mobile armored units, forward!

[several attacks knock Milla and the others off their feet. As she struggles to rise, Alvin hesitates. He lifts his gun to shoot her, but Celsius attacks him with an ice spear.]

GILLAND: Were you not paying attention? Stand pretty and stay out of this.

ROWEN: Miss Elize!

GILLAND: Bring the brat along, too. A fine specimen of booster compatibility.

MILLA: Take your hands off of her!

[Gaius darts in as she charges and elbows her in the stomach.]

MILLA: Why are you--doing this...

GAIUS: Go to sleep. You'll just complicate things.

[he slings her over his shoulder, fending off several Exodus soldiers.]

JUDE: Gaius!

GAIUS: We will settle out score later. [he tosses Milla at Jude.] Maxwell is the one they're after. Take her and flee! What do you think you're doing?! I told you to go!

LEIA: But, we can't just leave Elize!

JUDE: Rowen, Leia! Take care of Milla. [he hands her off to Rowen.] You all go on ahead!

[Gaius gets pinned between two attackers, but as a third one approaches, Wingul steps in and cuts him down.]

WINGUL: Your Highness!

[Presa takes out another three. The soldiers holding Elize get curbstomped by Jiao. Cue touching scene. Meanwhile, Gaius wipes out a bunch of enemies with Incineration Wave. Badly injured, Jiao leaves Elize with Jude and Alvin, and returns to Gaius's aid. He and Gaius share a meaningful look, as Gaius realizes Jiao's intent.]

GAIUS: Thank you for your faithful service.

JIAO: Look after everyone.

[Wingul and Presa join Gaius as he leaves, both bowing to Jiao respectfully.]

JIAO: It's time for one last rampage.

[and he fucks some serious shit up as he dies, finally getting taken out by a laser from a ship. 8( ]

(Xailen Woods Temple)

[Milla and co. enter, following a bit after Wingul. Alvin leans against a pew.]

WINGUL: so in the end you've chosen to trust that man. You're more naive than I thought, Maxwell.

MILLA: Tell us what your purpose is for bringing us here.

WINGUL: We will stand and fight against those...invaders. If you intend to challenge them yourselves, we won't attempt to stop you.

GAIUS: but first there's something you need to tell us. I want you to tell us what you know about the Schism.

JUDE: What's that?

[there's a long pause.]

MILLA: Two millennia ago, I cast the spirit arte Schism. It created a new world and sealed it away. That world is yours. It is known as Rieze Maxia.

LEIA: Did Milla just say that she created the entire world?

TEEPO: Wow! She's like a goddess or something!

MILLA: It was for protecting spirits and humans.

GAIUS: Rieze Maxia is sealed. That implies the existence of another world outside the Schism, does it not?

MILLA: Yes, and that world is called Elympios. I was gravely mistaken about the Lance of Kresnik's true purpose. Exodus convinced Nachtigal that it was a weapon, but all along they were plotting to create a device that would dispel the Schism.

GAIUS: Dispel the Schism? To what end?

MILLA: I do not know. I wonder if perhaps they were looking for a means to siphon mana back to Elympios.

ALVIN: No. All Exodus ever wanted was to go home. Back home to Elympios. It's all we've wanted for more than twenty years, since we became trapped in Rieze Maxia. We needed to find a way to either break through the Schism or dispel it completely.

MILLA: But in order to dispel the Schism, they would have to find a way to eliminate its creator.

LEIA: I see. So that's why Exocus kept trying to kill you.

GAIUS: It doesn't add up. What is Gilland's master plan?

ELIZE: I'm confused. I still don't understand.

ROWEN: Gilland's actions are not going to get Exodus home any faster.

ALVIN: He didn't need to bring the whole Elympion army. And unifying Rieze Maxia? That was never our original intention.

WINGUL: Gilland must intend to make use of Rieze Maxia with the Schism intact. But for what purpose?

ALVIN: That's it. The Otherworld Reactor Plan.

JUDE: What?

AGRIA: Huh? The hell's that?

ALVIN: Most folks knew it as the Spirit Fuel Plan.

LEIA: that sounds bad.

ALVIN: I remember my cousin telling me about it when I was still a kid, back on the other side. Something about capturing spirits and using them as fuel for spyrixes.

PRESA: So you're saying Gilland's ultimate goal is to corral all the spirits?

JUDE: But that doesn't make sense either. If all he wants is spirits, then why bother with the lies? Unless...He's planning on trapping us in Rieze Maxia for our mana lobes!

GAIUS: He seeks to use the people of Rieze Maxia as a power source? The man is insane.

ALVIN: Gilland most likely returned to Exodus HQ on the ocean. The Elympion army is with him, so getting there by boat won't be easy.

WINGUL: Well then, perhaps we could commandeer one of the flying ships they have docked at Kanbalar.

LEIA: Oh, yeah right, because that sounds easy!

ROWEN: It may indeed be our only option.

GAIUS: Very well. We attack tomorrow.

[He turns to leave, the Chimeriad following.]

JUDE: Wait a minute, Gaius! Aren't we going to team up on this? I mean we both want the same thing, so--

GAIUS: It's not a social gathering.

AGRIA: Just how stupid are you, anyway.

GAIUS: It was Maxwell who created the Schism and trapped us all inside of it in the first place. Imprisonment is not so easily forgiven. It's entirely possible we may end up fighting each other again.

PRESA: I'm sure you can understand why were not ready to get all buddy-buddy with you.

WINGUL: Like I said, do what you want. Just make sure to stay out of our way.

[Later that night, Jude and Milla are talking in the temple.]

MILLA: you don't want to ask me anything about what I revealed earlier today?

JUDE: No, no. You did the right thing. The just thing.

MILLA: At least I hope so. Justice is a complicated concept. It means different things to different people.

[Gaius enters.]

GAIUS: And what is justice to you.

MILLA: Heh. I thought this wasn't a social gathering.

GAIUS: Answer me, Maxwell.

MILLA: It is the power of will that resides within one's heart.

GAIUS: Hmph. In this, we are both in agreement. Those with this willpower bear a responsibility to this world. The strong must protect and guide the weak.

MILLA: Gaius, weakness isn't an affliction of the body, but of the heart. The world will always have weak-willed people, but that in itself isn't a bad thing.

GAIUS: Then we must protect the weak until they can become strong. That is our duty.

JUDE: we?

GAIUS: Yes. All who are strong must look after the weak. It is the only way to ensure that future generations will have sufficient strength, as well.

MILLA: So that's your solution to the problem I posed in Fezebel Marsh.

GAIUS: As I told you then, I can chart a new future for mankind if I just have enough power. But if a man like Gilland takes the stage, a man who can only use power for his own gain, then mankind will be doomed to repeat the same mistakes.

MILLA: I see. But I'm afraid it's not up to me to approve your answer. Your concept of justice is your own. It's not my place to interfere.

GAIUS: Hmph. As you say.

JUDE: The two of you sure are alike.

GAIUS: How so?

JUDE: No matter how extreme her words are, I think there's always truth to them. I get the same sense from you.

GAIUS: Do you want to be like Maxwell?

JUDE: I wouldn't mind it, although I know that's impossible.

GAIUS: I see.

[he leaves.]

[the next morning, everyone gathers outside.]

ROWEN: How do you intend to hijack a ship that's docked in the sky?

WINGUL: We'll use the wyverns in the castle.

MILLA: you have to get there first.

GAIUS: I have no intention of sneaking into my own castle.

WINGUL: We shall march up the main road and reclaim it.

JUDE: What? You can't be serious!

ROWEN: Indeed. At the very least, you should split into two groups. Create a diversion.

[he pauses, realizing what he just said.]

AGRIA: Keep your tactics to yourself, you old fart.

GAIUS: Jude, do you know what you have to do?

JUDE: Of course. I have to help Milla win. It's that simple.

GAIUS: Then let's go.

[they move out.]

[in the city, Gaius and the Chimeriad create a diversion to help Milla and Jude's group sneak in, etc etc. They catch up to them on the airship to clean up any remaining enemy troops.]

GAIUS: the ship is ours!

[his troops cheer.]

GAIUS: Let's return to the castle.

[yep]

GAIUS: How long until we can set sail?

WINGUL: I have every available man working to get the ship's systems under control. It may take a few hours.

[if you go speak with him in the throne room afterward, he says:]

GAIUS: Don't forget. If I ever need a Maxwell to unify my people, then a Maxwell I shall have. But at the moment, it is your strength and knowledge that I require.

[before departure]

WINGUL: Your Highness, perhaps a few words.

GAIUS: Once, we turned our swords upon each other and fought for control of Rieze Maxia. Today, we come together not as enemies, but as allies. We have already located the enemy's headquarters, a ship known as the Zenethra. Fear not the battle to come, brothers. United, we will not falter. Together, we shall reclaim our world!

WINGUL: Launch the ship.

SOLDIER: Y-your Highness! We've detected a high energy channeling circle surrounding all of Rieze Maxia. Here it comes!

LEIA: Wh-what's happening? It's like my mana's being sucked dry!

MILLA: I know this feeling.

JUDE: They're using the Lance of Kresnik to absorb the entire world's mana!

WINGUL: The Spirit-Fuel Plan.

GAIUS: I won't let them hurt our people. I will protect Rieze Maxia! Make us airborne!



Notes: They board the Zenethra, Muzet goes to distract the surrounding ships. Ivar joins Gaius and the Chimeriad when the groups split up, but he gets himself captured almost immediately. Gaius and co. finally run into Milla and co. right after they defeat Gilland. Milla releases the Four and moves to destroy the Lance. Gaius looks like he wants to stop her, but he doesn't make a move. Before it can happen, though, Muzet attacks them with an arte from outside the ship. They assume it's a trap left by Gilland. Gaius claims he can break through it, but clearly it's beyond him. Jude suggests using the Lance to dispel it by giving it their mana. Milla forces herself forward and sacrifices herself instead so they don't have to risk it. As she falls and the ship begins to collapse, Jude screams her name.

Supposedly, everyone else manages to escape the wreckage relatively unscathed. In the following months, Gaius takes over Rashugal and begins searching for the Lance in the Zenethra's wreckage while fending off attacks from Muzet. He runs into Jude, Leia, Rowen and Elise in Fennmont.]


GAIUS: So you survived after all.

JUDE: Gaius!

GAIUS: Throw him in a cell. [referring to the Elympios soldier the group just beat up.] These people are with me.

[nearby soldiers salute and start to drag the man away.]

ELYMPIOS SOLDIER: Stop it! Let me go!

SOLDIER: Come quietly, or else!

ELYMPIOS SOLDIER: All of Elympios will die at this rate! What did we do to deserve this?!

JUDE: Gilland said the same thing.

LEIA: Wow, Gaius! When did you start ordering around Rashugal troops?

GAIUS: Everyone in Rashugal succumbed to terror and panic after Nachtigal's death. I led them from the chaos.

TEEPO: Wow! That's some trick!

ROWEN: what exactly are you doing here in Fennmont?

GAIUS: We are working with the Rashugal military to salvage the Lance of Kresnik from the bottom of the ocean.

JUDE: why? What do you want with the Lance now?

GAIUS: Exodus may be gone, but it's unlikely they've abandoned their Otherworld Reactor Plan. I will put a stop to it. And you? What of your plans?

JUDE: We want to talk with Muzet.

GAIUS: Why come find me?

LEIA: we heard you've been fighting her, so we figured you might know something.

SOLDIER: Your Highness, we're ready to set sail.

GAIUS: Good. [he turns away.] Come to the seahaven.

JUDE: How come?

GAIUS: Come with me, and you may get your chance to see Muzet. [he walks off.]

[on the boat. presumably, the party fills Gaius in on what Muzet said about Milla.]


GAIUS: I see. All that time, she was just bait.

JUDE: that's why I want to meet the real Maxwell. To find out the truth.

GAIUS: he'd most likely reside in the spirit realm.

LEIA: But...does such a place even exist?

ROWEN: And even if it did, we have no means of getting there.

WINGUL: Indeed, it's little more than a legend. But we know for a fact that spirits exist. So it follows that they must reside somewhere. Likewise, a path to their realm must also exist.

TEEPO: Hey, what about Nia Khera? Don't they call that place the village of the spirits?

GAIUS: You have a point. It lies near a mountain known as the Hallowmont. Perhaps you might find a clue there.

LEIA: Well, what are we waiting for? Let's check it out!

WINGUL: don't get too excited. This ship isn't turning around until we reach the Lance of Kresnik.

LEIA: Really? Come on, who cares about that stupid Lance.

ROWEN: Gaius, earlier you spoke of stopping the Otherworld Reactor Plan. I suspect you're planning to invade Elympios using the Lance of Kresnik.

GAIUS: It is for the good of Rieze Maxia.

JUDE: Hold on. You would need massive amounts of mana to use the Lance.

GAIUS: I understand. I do not wish to sacrifice humans or spirits.

ELISE: Then...maybe we don't have to use it.

GAIUS: The reality is, someone must.

JUDE: Are you trying to finish what Milla started?

GAIUS: I never put it into that perspective, but inevitably, yes. That is what I'm doing. No one has ever made such a strong impression on me.

JUDE: Then we also need to consider the fate of Elympios!

WINGUL: you're worried about them? At a time like this? They were willing to sacrifice every human ans spirit life in Rieze Maxia!

JUDE: why does one side have to suffer for the sake of the other? It doesn't sit well with me. It wouldn't sit well with her, either. She would destroy the schism and save everyone. That's what I want to do.

GAIUS: I'm surprised to hear such words from you. Are you trying to repay her for what she's done for you?

JUDE: Yes.

GAIUS: You've grown strong. Jude, join me and--

WINGUL: Your Highness, we've nearly arrived. The salvage operation needs your attention.

GAIUS: [he gives Wingul a look, taking a moment to respond.] Very well. [he glances at Jude once more before walking off.]

JUDE: Gaius?

[as the Lance is pulled from the ocean, Muzet attacks the fleet and Jude and co. fight her. As they all collapse, exhausted, several soldiers run forward to restrain Muzet.]

LEIA: Whew! It's a good thing we didn't try tackling her on our own.

JUDE: Muzet! Why are you doing this?

MUZET: why? All I am doing is--all I'm trying to do is protect Rieze Maxia! That's what!

JUDE: I mean--How does what you're doing protect Rieze Maxia?

MUZET: How am I supposed to know?!

[Gaius and Wingul approach.]

GAIUS: So you are acting under order.

MUZET: [looks shocked, then angry, blasting the soldiers holding her away.] What do you people want with Lord Maxwell?

WINGUL: so there is another Maxwell after all.

LEIA: Muzet! This can't be what Maxwell really wants, can it?

MUZET: Of course it can! Lord Maxwell, is this not your divine will? Lord Maxwell! Please! Command me to smite these humans!

[there is no reply. She actually begins to cry a little.]

ELISE: what is happening to her?

ROWEN: I do not know.

[Muzet darts off into the sky.]

GAIUS: Wingul, come, follow me!

WINGUL: Yes, sir!

[Gaius backflips off the side of the boat and onto the back of a wyvern. Showoff.]

JUDE: Gaius, no!

WINGUL: After His Highness! Send word to the Chimeriad!

[climbing the Hallowmont, Jude and co. hear Muzet and Gaius fighting up ahead, and hide.]

MUZET: You witness the depths of my suffering, Lord Maxwell. And yet you never answer me! Why?! Why?! Why?! Why have you forsaken me?

GAIUS: You are a mighty spirit, and yet you are unable to think for yourself.

MUZET: I will not let you reach Lord Maxwell! His defense is all I have left! [she attempts to attack Gaius, but with her mana waning, it's not very powerful. He dodges easily.]

GAIUS: Foolish. No, pitiful.

[Muzet grasps her head, looking distraught, then flies off with Gaius in pursuit.]

[Muzet approaches the portal to the spirit realm at the peak of the Hallowmont, face streaked with tears.]

MUZET: I'm lost without Lord Maxwell. Lost. No path. No purpose.

GAIUS: A powerful spirit like you should think for herself.

MUZET: I don't know how! Please, it can be anyone. It can be you. Give me purpose.

GAIUS: You can't mean to betray Maxwell?

GAIUS: So, Maxwell, you would step down from your rightful place as this world's god?

MILLA: Gaius!

GAIUS: Answer me, Maxwell!

MAXWELL: I have grown weary of constantly being at the mercy of human hearts.

MILLA: Maxwell.

GAIUS: If you wish to abdicate your throne as Rieze Maxia's god, then I shall sit upon it in your stead.

MAXWELL: A mere human to replace me as my equal? How absurd. You are not worthy at all!

GAIUS: It is not a question of being worthy. It is a question of actually being willing and able. If you cannot fulfill your obligations, then I certainly will.

MILLA: Not so fast. I'm afraid that's not going to work for me, either.

GAIUS: It matters not. I don't need your approval.

[he points, and the Lance appears]

MAXWELL: Such power...it can't be!

MILLA: The Lance of Kresnik?!

MUZET: what choice did I have? After all, you refused to tell me what I should do now, didn't you?

MAXWELL: Muzet, have you lost your mind?

MUZET: I cannot allow you to destroy the schism!

GAIUS: Maxwell, you shall serve as the cornerstone of your own world!

[Muzet traps him with the Lance...]

MAXWELL: What?!

MUZET: It is my mission to protect the schism! My mission! Mine! Mine! Mine!

MAXWELL: Release me right now! That is an order!

MUZET: I'm afraid it's too late! You're always too late!

GAIUS: Muzet, come to me. Are you prepared?

MUZET: Whatever my lord wishes.

MAXWELL: No! Stop now! You can't mean to unleash it!

GAIUS: Behold, Muzet's true power: a sword that can slice through space and time.

MUZET: I don't expect we'll meet again. Farewell, my sister.

MILLA: You can't be serious!

JUDE: Why are you doing this! Gaius!

GAIUS: for the sake of those who were killed, I will go to Elympios! And you shall return to Rieze Maxia, where you cannot interfere!

[he uses the sword to open a portal, which starts drawing everything toward it.]

ALVIN: Come on, you gotta be kidding me!

ELISE: n-no, I can't hang on!

TEEPO: H-hang in there, Elise!

ALVIN: I've got you!

[Maxwell attempts to open a second portal.]

MILLA: Maxwell! No!

JUDE: Wait! What's going on!

ALVIN: Not another one!

MAXWELL: Leave at once! This man is not worthy of the name Maxwell!

GAIUS: We shall see!

MILLA: everyone brace yourselves!

[the group gets dumped in Elympios and rescued by Balan. Meanwhile, Gaius leads troops into Elympios and attacks Helioborg fortress, destroying most of their stores of spyrixes. He runs into them again on the roof of the spyrite research lab after they've defeated Volt.]

MILLA: We were wondering when you'd show up.

GAIUS: Interesting. I never expected to find you here.

MUZET: So you've come to Elympios after all.

JUDE: I'm assuming you're the one that activated Volt. I don't understand your motive, though. Were you testing its potential?

GAIUS: Potential? I would never entrust my people's lives to something as tenuous as potential. I attempted to tether with a spyrite precisely because it is something you would consider.

JUDE: what?

GAIUS: but it was for naught. Their power is far beyond human control. That leaves us with no choice but to eradicate every last spyrix from this world.

ALVIN: So that really is your plan.

LEIA: Don't you realize what would happen?

GAIUS: We would end the Otherworld Reactor Plan once and for all. Surely the end justifies my means.

MILLA: What about the schism?

MUZET: we will leave it in place. As long as spyrixes exist, the threat of Elympios exploiting Rieze Maxia remains.

MILLA: And what of Maxwell? Do you plan to leave him where he is?

GAIUS: it is the duty of the strong to ensure that the weak do not perish.

JUDE: This isn't right, Gaius!

GAIUS: What about it isn't right?! We will safeguard the schism until the last spyrix is destroyed. Then we shall unite the two worlds!

MILLA: what about all the people who will suffer if you eliminate their spyrixes? Are you just going to ignore them?

MUZET: Don't worry about the poor, suffering humans. Gaius will protect them.

GAIUS: Jude! Milla! You of all people should understand the ideals I'm striving for!

JUDE: What's the point of ideals if you force them on others? Don't you see what's happening? Spyrix is a necessity for these people. Take it away and they'll have nothing left!

MILLA: Jude...

GAIUS: You talk only of possibilities. I demand certainties.

JUDE: Maybe you'e right, but I can't give up.

MUZET: This conversation is pointless. Please, let's be off.

GAIUS: Yes, I suppose you're right.

[crashin Jude and Milla's pre-battle date.]

JUDE: Gaius!

GAIUS: Just relax. I've come here to tell you something, and that's all.

JUDE: Well? What then?

GAIUS: We are ready to commence our operation to wipe out every spyrix in Elympios.

JUDE: You came here to tell us that?

GAIUS: No. Listen. You have a dream for the future of the world that is vastly different from mine. So...

[he holds up a knife.]

MILLA: Take it easy.

GAIUS: This is a piece of Muzet's power.

JUDE: The power to slice through space? What of it?

[he tosses it at their feet.]

GAIUS: Here. I give you a chance to return to Rize Maxia quietly if you choose to.

MILLA: Heh, you'd still offer us a chance to end things peacefully.

JUDE: Gaius, you know full well that we can't walk the same path. Not anymore.

GAIUS: If you wish to make your dream a reality, then come and face me. I won't run, and I won't hide.

[he starts to leave.]

MILLA: Wait! What about Muzet?

GAIUS: She is very torn. She has incredible power, yet she knows not how to use it. In hindsight, I was cruel to force such a weak person to become strong so suddenly.

MILLA: He wants to save her too, doesn't he.

JUDE: Hey...I know I might just be fighting for selfish reasons now, but I know that I have to go face Gaius. I need to get a grip on these fragile feelings. Otherwise, I won't become the adult I want to be. So, Milla...if I ever stray from my path, promise me that you'll be there to remind me who I really am.

MILLA: I will.

[final battle sequence]

JUDE: Gaius...

GAIUS: you've come.

JUDE: Why? Why did things end up like this?

GAIUS: No one is to blame.

JUDE: You're right. Thank you.

MILLA: Muzet. Return Maxwell to us.

MUZET: The world no longer needs him.

MILLA: No one is unneeded. If he is unneeded, then so are you and I.

MUZET: Shut up! I don't need a stupid lecture from you! And I certainly don't need him!

MILLA: Muzet...

JUDE: Hold on, we...

GAIUS: there is nothing left for us to discuss here. You already know that.

[there's a rumbling noise, and Maxwell appears]

JUDE: What's happening?!

MAXWELL: At last I have found you! I shall sever the link between the Temporal Crossroads and the outside world. Leave those two to me.

GAIUS: You fool! How dare you, Maxwell!

MUZET: Do you intend to just seal us away in here?!

JUDE: Wait a minute, Maxwell! What about all of Muzet's power?

MAXWELL: I will annihilate this space once I have severed the link. She will have no time to use her power.

JUDE: Hold on! Our friends are still here too!

MAXWELL: I am sorry, but it is too late for them. This is our last chance.

MILLA: What will happen to the schism?

MAXWELL: When this space collapses the schism should vanish.

MUZET: Why?! Damn you, Maxwell! Why do you always do this!

MAXWELL: Muzet, I regret putting you through this ordeal.

MUZET: Shut up! I won't let you take everything from me again!

[she tries to attack him but he vanishes and reappears elsewhere.]

MAXWELL: Milla! The two of you must return to the outside worl--

[Gaius attacks instead.]

MAXWELL: You insolent little--

[he dissolves into particles. Gaius gestures to Muzet.]

GAIUS: Stop Maxwell!

MILLA: Muzet, wait!

GAIUS: You will face me now!

[battle start]

GAIUS: I have to apologize in advance.

MILLA: No need for your apologies!

JUDE: Since we won't be defeated!

GAIUS: Hmph, interesting. We shall see if there is any truth to your words.

[and when Jude and Milla win...]

GAIUS: Is this it...?

JUDE: You will not--

MILLA: Stop us!

[injured, Gaius falls to one knee. However, Muzet opens a portal behind him, and he escapes through it.]

[in the temporal crossroads, Gaius and Muzet are fighting Maxwell.]

MILLA: Maxwell!

MAXWELL: You fools! Why have you come?

GAIUS: Muzet, grant me strength!

[he draws the sword from her chest, attacking Maxwell with it, making him vanish again.]

JUDE: Gaius! Muzet!

MUZET: I don't understand! Why do you keep trying to stop us?

GAIUS: I warn you. Keep this up and you will lose the person who is most dear to you.

JUDE: If I run, I won't be able to face her. Then I would really lose her.

MUZET: Milla, you already have something important to protect!

MILLA: and I can't let him see me back down.

JUDE: So I won't. I won't run!

MILLA: And I will fight!

GAIUS: Your resolve is commendable. And I have no intention to stray from my path in any way, either.

[wooo final boss transformation]

GAIUS: The time has come! We shall see whose path continues into the future!

MUZET: Yes! I shall be the blade that leads you to victory!

JUDE: we'll have to face them both!

MILLA: It would be nearly impossible alone. However--

JUDE: we're not alone!

MUZET: now that I have Gaius, I have what you have! You won't stand a chance!

GAIUS: Let's see how long you're able to last against us!

JUDE: we'll last until we defeat you! Let's do this, Milla!

MILLA: It's time to finish this!

[the other party members arrive one by one, each using their mystic artes.]

LEIA: Let's do this!

LEIA: Hah, sorry I'm late!

JUDE: Glad you're okay!

LEIA: Are you ever gonna stop worrying about me?

JUDE: Someday. For now, we could use your help!

LEIA: Kay!

GAIUS: Why do you fight against us, when you know very well the instability of spyrite!

LEIA: It's simple! I'm living my life as I see fit. And what matters to me is being here with everyone! There's not much else to it!

ALVIN: Hey, let me handle this!

[Terminus Pride]

ALVIN: Hey, did I keep you waiting?

MILLA: You sure did.

ALVIN: Hah, no pleasant greetings?

MUZET: Why do you go against Gaius? Don't you see that he is just?

ALVIN: let's just say I got tired of betraying everyone.

MUZET: Liar!

ALVIN: I'm not. I know this is where I belong. And I'm not ready to part with it yet!

ROWEN: Now, shall we begin?

[Grand Finale]

ROWEN: I have arrived.

JUDE: We were waiting for you.

ROWEN: I must say, it feels good when others rely upon you.

GAIUS: Truly a pity. Of all people, I expected you to at least follow the right path.

ROWEN: You expected too much from me. I am no different from everyone else here.

GAIUS: So be it. Your age won't matter when I strike you down.

ROWEN: I plan to see the future. I hate to break expectation again, but I will not lose.

ELISE: I can do this! I hope...

[Scary-Go-Round]

ELISE: We made it!

TEEPO: Hey, you guys still alive?

MILLA: We were waiting for you two.

ELISE: I'll provide support!

TEEPO: Let's do this, Elise!

MUZET: you were kept alive as a puppet, for the benefit of others. You should know my pain!

TEEPO: We do! We really, really do!

ELISE: But I finally found my own reason to live, and I don't want to lose these feelings!

MUZET: That's enough from you!

[when defeated]

MUZET: It can't be...

GAIUS: Is it still not enough?

LEIA: Is it...over?

ROWEN: Yes, no doubt about it.

ALVIN: victory's ours!

ELISE: We did it!

JUDE: Milla!

MILLA: Yes! It's finally over.

[post-battle]

[Milla summons the Four and destroys the Lance.]

MILLA: Maxwell!

MUZET: Once again, it's all gone. I've lost everything.

GAIUS: Your vision of the future offers nothing but suffering to the people...whether spyrites are perfected or not. Even if we unite the two worlds, it is pure fantasy to think that they will cooperate with one another.

JUDE: Maybe you're right. Maybe my dreams for the future are hopelessly naive. But still, Milla never stopped believing in me. And so did you, Gaius. Didn't you.

GAIUS: But what does any of that matter now.

JUDE: I may appear to be talking tough now, but I was scared witless throughout this entire journey. I'm still just a small, frail human. But you know what? I will get stronger. I want...I want you to believe in me.

MILLA: Humans strive to become stronger. They constantly struggle to grow more for the sake of others. They rise to the occasion. This fills me with hope for the future. One that is filled with possibilities. I cherish it. I know you understand this, Gaius.

GAIUS: I do not. When all of these possibilities of yours evaporate, I will then be forced to rise again.

JUDE: you won't have to do anything.

[He holds out his hand. Gaius looks shocked, then looks away.]

MILLA: Muzet. [she extends her hand as well.] If living alone is too painful for you, then come join us.

MUZET: [in tears] thank you.

MAXWELL: I see that you have made up your mind.

MILLA: Yes.

JUDE: Milla.

ALVIN: Wh-what are you talking about?

MILLA: I have decided to become Maxwell.

LEIA: Huh?

ROWEN: So that was your plan.

MAXWELL: now if you so desire, Milla, you may use the schism's mana to become human again.

[Milla shakes her head.]

MAXWELL: I see. Keep watch over the spirits.

JUDE: Wait!

MILLA: Jude, I'm afraid this is farewell. Our fates were always intertwined in mysterious ways. Thank you for everything.

JUDE: Hold on! I...I'm sorry for all the times I was weak. But now, I think I'm going to be just fine.

ELISE: Milla!

TEEPO: Elise wants you to know that she loves you tons! Of course, I do, too!

LEIA: Will we be able to see each other again?

ROWEN: It has been a pleasure.

ALVIN: What the hell is this?! You never told us!

MILLA: I'm ready.

[Maxwell nods and explodes into light, blah blah. The schism is dispelled, the spirit climes stabilize. Jude takes Milla's hand.]

JUDE: Milla, everything's all right.

MILLA: From now on, I am Milla Maxwell, the Lord of the Spirits. I will be okay.
